Stress is caused by the release of hormones in the body, named quite aptly “stress hormones”. The three major chemicals are Adrenaline, Cortisol, and Nor-epinephrine. These cause us to become stressed when we see the bosses number ringing you. Or when you are rushing to that meeting and stuck in traffic

The job of Adrenaline is to prepare us for the fight, flight or freeze response activated by the perceived threat of danger. Nowadays it’s fair to say it would be very rare to have to use our sympathetic nervous system to prepare us to run away from a polar bear on the loose. However our mind has not got the ability to tell the difference from a polar bear on the loose or an upcoming presentation, meeting or exam and will prepare us for the same response.


Working in conjunction these stress hormones give you energy, edge, focused attention and maintain fluid balance and blood pressure.  Thus everything you need to run away from a dangerous situation.

When in the survival mode of fight, flight or freeze then a correct amount of cortisol will regulate certain body functions. But if we are continually stressed and tend to stew over problems, then the body continually produces cortisol.  This can lead to dangerously high levels which can lead to serious problems.

Elevated levels of cortisol can suppress the immune system. As well as increase blood pressure, increase sugar levels in the blood, decrease libido, produce acne and other skin conditions, contribute to weight gain and obesity and many more conditions.

So just think if you could find a way to relax? Brush everything off and move on with life! Imagine a life not having to stress over those phone calls, emails or other things in your life causing you stress.
